Jewelry Q & A

Unique Diamond Engagement Ring

Q.Appraised has everything to do with it. Why would the guy sell it for the price he paid if the diamond is worth more now??? He would be an idiot to sell it for the prce he paid. He is probably selling it a little bit below market value. I personally bought a Rolex 12 years ago for $1800.00 at Birks. A Rolex dealer offered me $2000.00 for it and said that he could easily sell it for $3000.00. The list price is $5100.00. Now, would I sell it for the price I paid??? NOT.

A.hunnhhh my cousin paid a ring 2500, and could easily get it appraised (and did) for insurance purposes at 5000. so meaning, any chump can buy a ring, get it appraised higher and make u think, you;re getting a deal, please get real. on top of that a ring is such a "sketchy" item, i have never heard of a guy not getting a much higher appraisal. anyways, i am in the market for a ring, so i have been doing my research. i thought i would just discuss further, you see a rolex is a qualtifiable cataloguable thing, they are all standard and can be looked up, a diamond ring on the other hand is generally unique- type of item, a car, pc, rolex etc have easy to define book values, and then dpending on production, demand and other factors,a price can be determined, a ring on the other hand is a much more difficult thing to tag a rate on. i think u would tend to agree, especially that their appraisal value depends on the opinion of a person. If i were an appraiser and i appraised a ring at 4 000 and the guy told me he would throw 200-300 bucks my way to make the 4 a 5, i am pretty sure I would do it just as any appraiser probably would. most normal humans are subject to these normal everyday temptations, especially when it's really no skin off their backs. i would love to hear your opinion and advice. i am a firm believer that the invoice price (if purchased at a reputable) establishment is a good guide to use. i am pretty sure that that is what insurance companies use, orrr they will send u to their company appraiser.
