Platinum Solitaire Engagement Ring?

Q.I'm searching for an engagement ring setting for 3/4 carat diamond. I liked the look of a platinum and gold setting but am in no means set on it. (No pun intended) I also came up with another idea today. Tell me what you think about it, Honestly. What about setting it with rubies or sapphires on the side? I think it would be different from most rings (which is a good thing).

A.I've been looking at ring wraps for my solitaire engagement ring, and have seen quite a few with rubies and sapphires on the side. Most of the jewelry stores at the mall had them, if you want to go take a look to get ideas. My ring (though with significantly smaller stones) is a diamond with emeralds on each side of it. My fiancee specifically got the emeralds on each side, 1 -- because its my birthstone and 2 -- it somewhat matches a gold ring I bought in Italy when I was there 3 years ago (before my fiancee and I started dating). I LOVE it and I especially love that its mine, and no one has a ring like this.
