Pink Gold Engagement Ring?

Q.The two of us when shopping for wedding rings the other day and I found a beautiful and affordable band. When I showed it to my fiance, he seemed a little disappointed and said he really didn't want me to get rid of the engagement ring (I had planned on trading it in towards the wedding rings). How common is it to keep the engagement ring as a part of your wedding ring? I don't care for that look because it still appears as though the girl is still engaged and not married when I see a solitaire.

A.I thought the traditional thing was to always keep the engagement ring as PART of the wedding set, then just add the band. We didn't have an engagment until just this week, and we bought a set, but the band is only a small gold band that nestles next to my solitaire. Most sets we looked at had a solitaire you wear before the wedding and a wrap you add later. I have never heard of trading in the engagement ring for the wedding set. However, I can see how much you could save doing that! And if you only want to wear a band anyway, there are some really beautiful bands that go as fancy as you can imagine with no stones. (They do some really beautiful stuff with that pink gold stuff. Roses and things.) My fiance's band is laser cut so the design in it is really shiny, though still only gold. (He loves it..they had a matching ladies band, but we both wanted different kinds, part of our individuality, I guess.) I don't think it's very common
