Irish engagement rings for men ?
Q.I think I remember reading somewhere that it's traditional for men to wear a Claddagh ring as an engagement ring. Is this a figment of my imagination, or can someone confirm it for me? If I'm right, I'd like to give my fiance one as a surprise.
A.This sounds right, for some Celtic traditions. I proposed to Julian with a piece of custom jewellery, promising to buy him a real ring if he said yes! ( I wanted to wait a few days until we were in Amsterdam or Italy, in case we anted a diamond in his ring...it wasn't because I was afraid of buying a ring and having him say no). Anyway, we went ahead and picked out engagement rings for *both* of us. I guess we're trying to start up / maintain a tradition for men's engagement rings here in Canada. :) I think it;s true. Jeff (my fiance) bought me a claddagh ring for xmas..sort of a promise ring... and in May I got the diamond. Jeff is Irish and felt that giving it to me was like giving me a part of himself. If you choose to get him one look around and price shop. Every claddagh is different and you want to be sure to get the one you want. I got Jeff a gold rope chain for our engagement. It was something he wanted and I got a good deal on it at an outlet store. when i proposed to philip, i gave him a ring--it had a star sapphire and 3 diamonds (it was hard to find a suitable man's ring--nothing with harley-davidson logos, no big chunky-clunky nugget-things, no onyx--he already had one of those...). i'm still waiting for mine!
