Average price of engagement ring nowadays?Q.What do you say the average price of an engagement ring nowadays is? I know it depends, but I'm looking for an average price. What's your opinion? A.I suspect you aren't getting answers, because there *are* no answers for you. There is no *average* price for an engagement ring. The smart person spends what s/he can afford. Mine cost $300 US at auction. But that doesn't tell you anything useful. Why are you asking? Perhaps if you give us the details of what you actually need to know, you might have more responses. Well, we spent about $150 to resize my heirloom engagement ring. But the ring itself is valued at $4500 and is quite a rock (actually 9 rocks set in platinum, but you get the picture...) The ring we would have gotten had the heirloom not been offered by his mother would have cost about $700 and would have been fairly modest in size (the cost is primarily that it would have been platium). A co-worker spent about $1,500. Some people never get one at all. I would have been content with a silver and bead ring from the local Saturday market. It really depends... on what her taste is, what your budget is, etc. If you're looking at 14 carat gold and a smallish diamond, you could be looking at as little as $200. If you're looking at an ornate platinum antique ring with lots of diamonds, you could be talking $10,000. If you want to give her a mighty rock usable for hand-to-hand combat, the sky is the limit. Honestly, I think it's silly to spend one cent more than you can afford--better to get a smaller ring and be able to buy a house sooner, IMO. I agree that this is a far more important set of questions that "what is 2 months salary". I spent closer to 1 months salary - but then again, I make a pretty good living. I found that the amount of money that I spent on the ring seemed "huge" at the time. That ring cost more than my first four cars combined! I bought the ring about 15 months ago. Since then we've had the wedding, and are about to close on a house that we're having built. Now that we've paid for the wedding ourselves, bought furniture for the living room and dining room, getting ready to put a down payment on a house (and the subsequent remodeling, and decorting expenses) - the ring expense seems barely large enough to count as a "drop in the bucket". ;) Other Questions : F.S.Man's Diamond Ring ?Please learn how to reduce the file size of your pictures before you post.
