Emerald Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring?
Q.As you may have read in another thread, I recently got an ear pierced. I'm considering having the diamond put into an earring and wearing it myself until such time as its original purpose can be fulfilled.
A.For one, the woman who ends up becoming the engagee may not like diamonds (I fall into that category, weird but true) or, as you say, have an objection to the fact that your parents bought the stone rather than you. From my perspective, an engagement ring is a something that should be chosen/decided upon together. From start to finish. For two, I think that things put aside/saved/provided by parentals for their children's marriages should become the property of said children/adults, to be used however they see fit once a certain cut off time is reached. Said cut off to be mutually decided. I found out after my sister got married that my parents had put away wedding money for my sisters and I. I kinda saw it as a dowry and was a little appalled. In any case, I suggested half jokingly that I might not ever get married and wondered why that money shouldn't become mine at age 30 to invest. I didn't really think they'd take me seriously. I gotta tell ya, they say that the look on my face when I opened that birthday card was priceless indeed !
