Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring?

Q.My partner and I are planning to get engaged later this year. My girlfriend has suggested that I might wear an engagement ring. We would like to know if men can wear engagement rings and if so what general style should the ring be in?

A.Whether or not you wear an engagement ring is totally up to the two of you, and just as her ring can be any style you two choose, so can yours be. My husband and I have matching engagement rings, but that's just what we chose. There aren't any rules here, and even the diamond solitaire engagement ring for women isn't a very old tradition at all. As other people have said, it's a choice thing. My fiance and I have matching engagement rings, but I've known couples who both had rings, but had rings which were different. Find something you like and are going to feel comfortable wearing, and go ahead. (Ours are plain gold bands with a 'twist' so the band goes either side of the stone, a blue topaz. Other couples I;'ve known have had celtic knotwork engagement rings, or a 'family' engagement ring for her and one they both liked for him, or just rigns they each liked, but different.)
