Designer Diamond Engagement Ring, Diamond Engagement Rings - What's the latest Fashion?Q.What kind of diamond engagement ring do you suppose she got? Oh, only a 10-carat diamond, with, what the hay, only 28 smaller stones next to it...>> Whew. I was worried it might have been something along the lines of "wretched excess", instead of the soul of quiet elegance. Off on a tangent, wasn't it Oscar Wilde who said "A man who marries his lover usually leaves a an opening in that position"? A.I find this subject interesting - there's a long story behind my rings. My husband was engaged for a short period a long time ago. She and he went all over Houston, finding the right design she wanted, having the set made with 18K and putting in perfect diamonds (she was a high class snob and would accept nothing other than perfect diamonds). The day my husband went to pick up the rings and pay for them (she was living in a different state at the time) she called and cancelled the engagement. Now, she knew he was going to pick up the rings that day so why wait until after he bought them? Of course he was stuck with them. The set was gorgeous but really - who needs that many diamonds?? and the setting was 18K which is a little fragile in my mind. So when we got engaged he asked me what I wanted. I told him to take the huge solitaire out of the center of this massive ring (I swear there must have been 18 or 20 diamonds surrounding the solitaire and the band had another 8 diamonds in it) and have it reset, by itself, for me. Then we purchased a separate wedding band. The good news is, I have taken all of these diamonds and had several different rings made since we got married - some with Amethyst (my favorite stone) and some with emeralds. Does she know that her one "perfect" wedding ring became 5?? There's a family friend that got engaged to a woman years ago. She made it known to M-- that she wanted an engagement ring with a diamond that was *at least 5 carats.* He's an attorney, but not the well-paid kind. He worked a lot of mental competency cases. But he still bought her that 5 carat diamond ring when they got engaged. It was pear shaped and looked like costume jewelry because it was just so big. She wore it to the racetrack for heaven's sake! Then again, this is the same woman who wore a full length fur to the bowling alley when the rest of us were in jeans and sneakers. Long story short...she dumped him because he didn't make enough money and wasn't ambitious enough. She took the ring too, but is also making payments. Why she wanted it, I'll never know...
