Do you have two, or just a band, or just one big ring? What kind of stones and metal? Do you wear them on the left or right hand? Was it a surprise, or did you pick it out together?
A.I found this discussion to be so interesting on the Ultimate Internet Wedding Guide when I was planning my wedding. It is like the choice of jewelry reflected the individual personalities of each person, and was a manifestation of their hopes, dreams, love. My husband has a 11mm wide titanium band. It's a replica of the ring in Abyss that saved the dude's life...he gets tons of compliments on it, and it's so *him*. He's a technogeek who works with computers, so of course he loves the aircraft grade titanium. My engagement ring, we designed together. It started out this way. I went to a gem and mineral show and picked out a gorgeous champagne diamond, about a C6 on the color scale, one full carat. No cloudiness, and truly the color of champagne. Then, Jeremy had it set in a platinum setting (he said no gold, not even white gold, so I said "you're the boss!"). The setting is heavy, has six bright white 5pt diamonds in triangle formation on either side of the larger round stone, which is raised up very high and protected by six prongs. The white diamonds really set off the color of the champagne diamond. But eventually, after we got married, I discovered a fissure that worried me about the diamond, and since I was afraid of cracking it, I had it taken out and put into a white gold bezel set pendant, and now I wear it as a choker. I got a 1 ct. moissanite for the center of my engagement ring, for a mere $500. It looks like an H colored diamond and is internally flawless; it is fun to have it tested in stores and then tell them what it is. I love it so much! There is a good possibility that Jeremy will get me that perfect colorless diamond to go in that ring one day (which will cost over $5K), but right now...the most important ring I have is the plain 3mm wedding band that goes *next* to the sparkly ring. That is the most important ring I wear, the one that was blessed by the minister in our ceremony. *sniffle* After 25 years of marriage, believe me, your priorities change. Instead of spending $5,000 to replace that diamond one day...take a trip to Paris or put a down payment on a house. The love you share is the most important part of a marriage....not the size of the diamond on your finger. I never got a diamond engagement ring. Mine is a gorgeous opal and I love it. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
