Comments on Diamond Lighting Lumenarc Horizontal MH Pendants
Q.I'm in desparate need of a decent MH setup but don't like the looks the industrial pendants and a lot of bad comments about Hamilton support have made me think twice about the ReefSun single horizontal pendant. What I do like is the Diamond Lighting Lumenarc Horizontal Pendant, I've found it at Premium Aquatics and Harbor Aquatics, price is reasonable, comes with 5 yr warranty on hood and ballast, 18 months on bulb. The 175 watt / 10000k German setup for ~US$250 is what i'll probably go for, just wondering if anyone else has purchased this setup (or anything else made by Diamond Lighting)... Any comments about: Construction Startup anomalies (any no-starts or bulb/ballast incompatibilities) Ballast heat/noise (i'm probably going to get a remote ballast) but this will be in my living room, will I be comfortable in there if i'm sitting 10' from it watching TV?
A.Actually, Premium Aquatics charges another $20 for the 'optional' UV shield (which, frankly, is required) plus another $30 or so (I forget the exact amount) for a remote ballast. So, figure on $300 for the setup you describe, plus shipping on 20 lbs. Other alternatives are the Prism Pendent from Custom Sea Life (has supplemental PC bulbs for 'blue' light, the Diamond Lighting fixture doesn't) or the strut-mounted-to-tank-rim modular fixtures from Aquatic Lighting Systems. I use one of these myself.
