Cartier Engagement Ring
Q.What is your favourite Royal engagement ring? Of course, one of the most famous as Diana's fabulous Kashmir sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds on a white gold band, but there are many other equally lovely engagement rings. What is your favourite and why?
A.Glad I am not the only one, wasn't going own up to it, didnt want to be accused of being a you-know-who-wannabe. Mine is the same, my husband bought it for me in London, replacing the original, which was stolen by the cable tv man years ago. I love sapphires, and have a few pieces of *real* jewelery which is a combo of sapphires and diamonds. OK - Gill here nit-picking again. Beautiful though it was, and HUGE (I've touched it!!) but Diana's band was yellow (Welsh) gold. The stones are set in platinum claws, though, and as the central stone is so large it does mask the band. On two occasions when I was in the crowd to see her I asked if I could take a look at the ring, which she was always shy-but-pleased to oblige. That stone stretched knuckle to knuckle and the blue was dazzling. Sigh....... Idiot that I am, I just realised that it was her Wedding ring that is Welsh gold, not the engagement ring. However, the engagement ring IS yellow gold, not white, as I said. (its been a long day - apologies one and all....) I did find that getting my engagement ring cured me of "needing" any other big peices. I have happily settled into collecting famousfakes. WHICH BRINGS ME BACK ON TOPIC! Oh, wow!! My favorite royal engagement ring has *got* to be Wallis Simpsons. In the later re-set. Vulgar, but who cares?
