Jewelry Q & A

Canary Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring, Engagement Ring Hunting/ Diamonds FAQ MATERIAL ?

Q.several people have asked me for the original letter he sent me. Instead of replying personally, I have decided to post it. I already had the letter, but Dennis also kept it (good move) along with another which he sent to someone else. The later deals with the cut of a diamond -very good as well. Maybe someone would like to put this information into a FAQ or something. I'm not a regular here. I probably won't resubscribe until she ABSOLUTELY HAS TO HAVE, CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT, DIEING FOR another piece of jewelry!!!! :)

A.I appreciate all the work that went into creating this FAQ. I'd like to make a few clarifications at this time and then add some more in the future. The color grading system for diamonds is actually evaluating the presence and absence of color. Yes, in most cases, that does mean the amount of yellow, but it can also be the presence of gray or brown or pink, blue, or green. Depending on the color, there is a point at the end of the grading scale (sometimes referred to as "beyond Z") where the presence of color increases the value, rather than decreasing the value and these are referred to as fancy yellow or fancy blue, etc. It is helpful to remember, that historically, there was a time when yellow stones were so rare (before the discoveries of diamonds in southern Africa), that a yellow stone was more valuable than colorless. Most diamonds found in matrix are found in the rock kimberlite. It is generally agreed that the diamonds are older than the kimberlite and were carried in the kimberlite in a pipe. Diamonds formed deep in the earth, and sometimes other minerals were trapped during formation. Because these minerals look black, people called then carbon spots, but they are not carbon. Oops, our system is being shut down for a machine upgrade, so I need to signoff and return later.
