DUTY FREE TAX FREE LOOSE DIAMONDS

Q.Would you buy duty free loose diamonds from an Internet site? I would never consider it though my grandma's diamonds came from a street peddlar.

A.I never met my grandmother because she died before I was born. My mother's family lived in New York City at the turn of the century, Jewish immigrants from Hungary and Romania. Peddlars used to go door to door selling things sort of like the Fuller brush man. My grandfather bought two loose diamonds from the diamond dealer and had them made into screwback earrings. My mother was the only girl in the family so she inherited these when her mother died. When I was sixteen my parents had them made into a diamond pendant for my high school graduation gift. One is flawed but the other is a better stone. My parents were in their mid 40s when I was born, and sadly there is so much of this history they never told me. Both have been deceased for several years.
