Q.Can someone please let me know if the value of a diamond is higher if the diamond is very clear(white) in clarity but with a flaw that you can see if you look closely(black speck) or is a diamond that is not as clear(not as white..a little yellowish in colour) but with no flaws in it. According to the saleslady, they are both worth the same in value...but which one would you choose???
A.ou should buy these earrings if you like them but remember that virtually none of the diamonds sold in regular jewelry and dept stores are worth anything except how much you like them. There was a superb article in The Atlantic many years ago about the brilliant but scammy advertising that deBoers (sp) has propagated on North Americans through the years. If you're interested in good quality diamonds your best bet is to go to an old, preferably family-owned, reputable jewelry store--I looked at diamonds pretty extensively a couple of years ago and got to kind of know the value and realized that the best buy was at the oldest snootiest jewelry store in town (they weren't really snooty but incredibly nice, but they have that reputation). Unless you are buying a very fine, very remarkable, large stone, diamonds don't have much of an 'investment' value. So you should get what you like.
