Black Diamond Solitaire Ring, What wedding jewelry did you pick? Would you pick it today?
Q.I did like one ring I tried on; it was a wedding band completely covered in pave diamonds. They were teeny, and the craftsmanship was exquisite, and the effect was magical--like something a fairy would wear. It came in platinum or yellow gold ... I tried on each and liked the platinum better. And then I thought--but all my "good" jewelry is yellow gold.
A.I was a little surprised when I saw Kevin Costner's fiancees ring. It was an itty bitty solitaire. Maybe they are sending a message out. I mean, for them, it was small. It had to be less than 1 carat. Not saying that is too small, but in this day and age with stars getting the big rings, it was small by comparison. Did anyone else see it? Not sure if I should be offended by you bringing this up in response to my post or not :) (just kidding for those humor impaired) I did see it, I thought it was very tasteful and elegant and that it would be much easier to wear than, say, JLo's rock. IIRC, Christine Baumgartners ring is an emerald cut solitaire, but I thought it might have had pave diamonds on the band. It looked like there might have been a little more to it than your average solitaire ring. Either way, I thought it looked great because she is so young and fresh looking and it just *fit* her. My parents got married when they were 19, so my mother never got an engagement ring either. For their 25th anniversary, my dad took her jewelry shopping for her to pick out a ring. The one she got was yellow gold, with 5 small diamonds (maybe 1/8+ carat each) in a row. Definitely not a traditional solitare, but it is something that really suits my mom, who is very practical and not into flashy jewelry, and she adores it. Basically, my point is that you should get whatever ring strikes your fancy. Get whatever you like best, regardless of what tradition says. If I'm ever lucky enough to get engaged, a diamond would be nice, but I would love a large sapphire ring just as much if not more. :)
