Baby Diamond Earring
Q.My wife is due 1/1/00. I am struggling to figure out what a pregnant woman would love to receive for Christmas at the end of week 38. Do I aim for something she can use now or something for after the child arrives? Any suggestions?
A.you should find something for her that is just for *her.* Her as a person, not as a pregnant person. I know when I've been pregnant (and far along) I've started to feel like my own identity has been ignored and I've simply become a vessel for this little person. Get her something that acknowledges her alone, not the pregnancy, not the baby, just her. Jewelry is always nice. This year, I pointed out a very pretty diamond ring to my husband that I really like (it's not an engagement-style ring, btw). A pair of diamond earrings would be much appreciated too. You could always go with plain gold (if she wears gold), or something with *her* birthstone in it, if she likes it. A mother's ring is a great idea, but she may not like getting something that focuses on her-as-the-pregnant-woman and you might get a surprise with the baby being born into the wrong month when the order's already been placed. A mother's ring is an excellent idea for Mother's Day...and possibly after you've completed your family so no one is left out. You could get her a gift certicate to her favorite store to shop for regular clothes after the baby is born. It might give her something to look forward to (the flip side is that it might depress her because she can't fit into those clothes right now).
