Asscher Cut Diamond Engagement Ring, Tiffany & Co. opening in Carmel ?Q.I rushed home from work and threw on a black crepe Ann Taylor Sheath and Black sandal mules. I donned my 18K Gold Elsa Peretti Diamond Pave Bean from Tiffany as my jewelry. I carried a pale blue pashmina in case the Carmel fog (aka June Gloom) rolled in. I carried my seldom used Frenchy of CA leather Kelly bag. I pulled up to what was the side of Saks and used the Valet Parking. I know those valet boys were super excited to get to park my old Honda Accord with seats covered in dog hair. I mean…who wants to park the Rolls Royce behind me when you can drive my car? : A.I met my friend outside and she checked me in. Our "badge" was a Tiffany Blue rubber bracelet like the Lance Armstrong ones. We sipped champagne and had a bite of seared Ahi. Literally…ONE BITE. The most fun was watching all the people. There was some serious "aftermarket" work running around the place. (That's what we call plastic surgery.) Don't get me wrong…I am all for plastic surgery, but not when you are nipped and tucked within an inch of your life!!!! Do these women not realize that they look OLDER with faces that tight? Anyway…we saw a few genuine Hermes Kelly Bags and Chanel Suits. We cracked up at the lady wearing the ¾ length mink swing coat. Hello…it was 65 degrees. No need for fur in this weather. Some women were serious label fashion victims. However, most of the people were just your average Carmelites, most of who look like they haven't bought new clothes in 20 years, but whom, in reality, could buy the contents of the Tiffany store. After the obligatory speeches and hand shaking they blew some horns and ushered us all into the store. The Store is on the corner where Georgiou and Sharper Image were. It is a SMALL Tiffany store. They have almost no home wear. The place was packed and we browsed for over an hour. I tried on a 10 carat Asscher cut Canary diamond engagement ring. It was a VVS1 in Fancy Yellow with 2 Carat Trillions on the side. It had a price tag of $450K. I tried on a beautiful Emerald Cut VS2 in F that was a little over 5 carats with smaller baguettes on the side. That was much more "affordable" at $115K. We left about 9pm and they handed us a Tiffany bag with a thick catalog and a small Blue Box. We were hoping it was something cute like a key chain or paperweight. We opened the boxes in the car to find they held Sterling Silver Wine Stoppers. Now, don't get me wrong, free is free, but COME ON! It looked like a doorknob. It may end up on e-Bay or I will give it to my old boss…who happens to own a winery that is doing quite well. So, that was my night. It was nice to go somewhere after work. I was bummed we didn't get any actual food. I had to go home and eat some raisin bran! You won't believe the things Stevie and I have stopped for as we drive home from yet another glamorous party that wasn't glamorous enough to include real food...milkshakes, chicken strips, omelettes, and my fave: donuts! You'll eat anything when you've been on your feet at a party all night. Other Questions : Promise Rings (was Re: What is a traditional pre-engagement gift?)The only other thing I can possibly think of would be a promise ring, which is sometimes exchanged when a couple is committed to each other but not yet ready to be engaged (often due to age or financial concerns).
