antique-look diamond ring too engagement-y?Q.I was at the jeweler this weekend getting a sizer put into my wedding ring (I'd lost a fair amount of weight, and it was falling off). I saw an antique-reproduction ring in the window that I fell in love with. It's platinum, squarish-shaped with a diamond that lays flat in the middle, and embellished on each side with designwork and a diamond chip. I've always wanted a ring like that...I'd thought I would inherit one, but that's a long story. Anyway, in spite of the extravagence, I put it on, it was beautiful, and I bought it. Now I'm wondering something. Since it's a repro ring, not a traditional style, was it intended as an engagement ring and did I just not recognize that? (I've found a similar ring, though not as nice, on the net being advertised as a "fashion ring" but also as a "reproduction Victorian engagement ring.") And if *was* intended as an engagement ring, is it odd of me to wear it on the other hand, a gift from myself? The ring that I saw that is similar in style, though not quality, is shown here: http://www.raymondjewelers.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/product-id/7... . Is this something that could be worn "just because," or does it look too engagement-y? I'm going to ask the jeweler about it when I pick up my wedding ring, but I'd like to hear anything folks have to say here, as well. A.The ring in the picture is gorgeous. Definitely wear it on your right hand and enjoy your beautiful ring. This is a new thing in fashion magazine ads. Buy your own diamond for your ring finger, right hand. You've got style, girl.~ It's a lovely design and totally wearable just as a decorative piece. Anyway, if anybody gets sniffy about it being an "engagement" ring (not that I think they will)... well, you _are_ planning on spending the rest of your life with yourself, right? ;) What a beautiful ring! It doesn't look engagement-y at all to me. But even if it did, who cares? It's beautiful and should be enjoyed! Wear it and love it. Forget what the ring was supposed to be for. It's fun to take things out of context and find new uses and life for them. I sometimes wear my long necklaces as belts, and I love the look. I think it may be a repro engagement ring, but it doesn't look engagement-y to me; these days, though anything goes, it seems that any sizeable solitaire or stone-centered, no matter the type, is what says "engagment". Several people thought a pale purple spinel solitaire ring I wore on my right hand was an engagement ring. If you wear yours on your right hand, I doubt anyone would think it was an engagement ring, and even if someone did, no biggie--it's a beautiful ring! I really like the ring - I agree w/ the others - wear it! One thing I didn't know, and maybe I'm alone in not knowing, is that to some people any nice ring worn on the ring finger of the left hand signals "taken." I am perplexed by this. I wear a gold band with a large but not huge garnet (my birthstone) ring on the ring ringer of my left hand. it looks better there than on my right hand. Several people, mostly men, have told me that upon seeing this ring they have assumed that I was engaged or at least had a serious boyfriend. An option I might have is to replace the diamond with a sapphire or something similar (really, it would mean the jeweler would have to take the ring back and make me a new one with the new stone...but we do have a history with this jeweler and he's said he would do it.) I *love* the diamond look, but would do this if it looks fashion faux-pas-ish. What do you think? Is it off-putting to have a "engagement-look" ring such as this on my right hand? Like I (almost) said before, I stood to inherit something similar. I've reached a point in my life where I'd basically like to own it on my own terms. What do you...or anyone else reading...think? Seems like most folks are okay with it, but I'm still listening. Other Questions : No longer "Plus-sized" ?Oh, happy day!! Went shopping today...Out of habit went to the women's plus size department. Everything looked too big. Walked over to the "regular" clothes and was thrilled to find that I am a size 14, and can put on a size 12 (not yet suitabl... Years ago I made the mistake of buying a $10,000 ring from Tiffany's. The engagement didn't "take". But now its time to lose the damn thing. It's been sitting around for too long and $10k shouldn'...
