5 Carat Diamond Ring, What Does Your Ring Look Like?
Q.Do you guys wear yours always, or take it off for chores/swimming/other misc. activities? And, how does everybody care for and clean their rings?
A.I tried wearing my ring all the time, but it stands a good 1/4" up from my finger (the diamond isn't *that* big -- it's set above the band). I kept getting it tangled in my long hair in the shower. Also, I haven't worn *any* jewelry -- not a ring, not a watch, not a necklace -- regularly for over a year (I go through phases on that -- wore 5 or six rings at once in college). It just feels weird sometimes. I wear my ring every time I leave the house, though, and most of the time when I'm awake. I do take it off to put on hand cream, to exercise, or to do anything messy. I can take it back to the jeweler to get it cleaned, but haven't yet. When I don't have it on, it has a specific home, and I usually remember to put it there... Oh, I forgot, I have a "size DOES matter" story. Our diamond is a little over 1/2 carat. When it was new I was showing it to various family members and one of my sisters did the obligatory, admiring OOOOOOOOH! and then her face fell and she said"Aw, it's so SMALL...." I turned around to see if my stricken-looking then-finace had heard (he had,) and saw the look of anger on my mother's face ("How could I have raised such a boor?") and the distaste on everyone elses, until she went on, "I'll NEVER be able to try it on, you have the damndest small fingers! Here, let me try it on my pinky?" 18K yellow gold, .25 carat round diamond in the center with smaller "chips" on either side decreasing in size. What I like best is the shape of the ring itself. Rather than a standard round ring or circle, the ring makes a gentle "S" curve with the diamonds in the heart of the curve. I have my grandmother's engagement ring on my right hand. That is platinum with a 1 carat CZ with two small chips, one on each side, set in an antique setting. The original diamond was removed by my mother but I have had numerous jewelers look at my ring and ohh and ahh over the "diamond" having no idea it is a CZ.
