3-stone bar ring setting?

Q.Hi, I had a ring a few years ago that I lost and would like to replace, possibly as a custom item. It was a 3-amethyst (oval cut) yellow gold (14k) ring, with the stones in a bar channel setting. Does anyone have any information you could give me about how to get a ring re-made, or where i could find a setting like this?

A.No question about it...the best custom guy around is Ray Elsey at Tradeshop. You can find him at www.tradeshop.com. He remade my engagement ring and it is absolutely stunning. Just check out his praises on his reccommendation page. I can personally vouch for his professionalism, timliness, honesty, and artistry! True. It probably won't be certified until you decide to buy it, but you can make your purchase contingent on the certification, I think. Also, many jewelers will offer a free certification. It's not worth much, but does give you some leverage. For example, when my husband was ring shopping, after he settled on one store and jeweler he felt he could deal with, he decided on one diamond and bought it (any reputable jeweler will have a liberal return policy, so don't worry too much). He immediately drove the diamond to another jeweler who gave it his free appraisal. The second jeweler declared that the stone wasn't as good in some area (color, I think) as was claimed, so wasn't worth as much. Of course, the second jeweler is motivated to say something like this because he wants to get the business for himself. But anyway, my husband drove the diamond right back and reported what he'd been told. The first jeweler apologized, admitted a mistake, and offered another stone that was better quality for a cheaper price, saying he felt bad and wanted to make up for it. My husband did exactly the same thing with the second stone, and the second jeweler declared it to be a good deal. After that, my husband had the stone GIA certified, and then the ring certified. As it turns out, the ring was valued at almost twice what he paid. :-)
